When and how to link from your blog

Reading Darrens newsfeed from his blog named problogger.net I found some nice tips about when to link from your blog.

My slightly modified list:

  • Link to something that clarifies what you’re saying or gives more information
  • Only link if you’ve read the content of what you’re linking too. If you didn’t read it, it seems that it wasn’t important to you. So why bother other people?
  • Give detailed information about the link. Use the title tag, for example: title=”‘Think before you link from your Blog’. Six ideas about howto make good links in Darren’s Blog ProBlogger.com”
  • Maybe: on long articles, put the take-away-links (link to something that will take away your reader) in a list at the end, to keep the readers attention. Better: improve your writing, so people want to stay on your site :-)
  • Make use of the abbr and acronym tags to give more information right on place, instead of linking to wikipedia.
  • My favourite: DIY - Link less!(R) and create more content yourself
